Went to a fairly interesting lecture last night about why people (especially poorer people) don't necessarily trust science. one reason not really touched on last night was the fact that, except for Cosmos and a few shows aimed at very young kids, most science-oriented educational, documentary-type TV shows seem to be made in as boring a way as possible. Science itself is interesting but you wouldn't know it from some of these shows. PBS can be really bad about this.
